Zambian Barbet (Chaplin’s)

This is the only true Zambian endemic bird, with a population estimate of about 2,000 birds are  found on the plateau from just north of Lusaka down to the southern province, but restricted to locations with Sycamore Fig trees. It appears to only breed in old trees (40 years and older) and consequently, in its un-protected range is vunerable due to de-forestation.
